Personally I'm glad someone with that big a sphere of influence had the guts to say that, especially knowing it was going to lead exactly where we are now (which is him getting spammed with hate), the usual behavior from RWBY fanatics. It'll open the door for more people being open about what Rooster Teeth did with his work, which was anything but good.
Let's all take a lesson from this: talking about a dead man isn't inherently disrespectful. Acknowledging or even openly preferring his work to the current direction of the show isn't "weaponizing" a dead man's name. People are going to talk about Monty, and it isn't "purism" to wish the show were more like what it was during his living years, nor is it disrespectful.
Monty isn't recently dead. It's time to get over this double standard where people can use Monty's name all they want as long as they're using it to bolster RWBY and Rooster Teeth's image, but using it any other way becomes a faux pas. Believe it or not, most of the people on the internet aren't going to adhere to that sort of wack logic.
